Establishing Factorial Invariance for Multiple-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis

چکیده

What is factorial invariance? When conducting multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis, one should establish factorial invariance. If a researcher establishes factorial invariance, then he or she is measuring the same construct across groups or across time. Factorial invariance is assumed when making a comparison between groups or between time points. When doing multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis, this assumption can be tested directly. Factorial invariance is also known as measurement equivalence and metric invariance.

Factorial Invariance Testing under Different Levels of Partial Loading Invariance within a Multiple Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis Model

Scalar invariance in factor models is important for comparing latent means. Little work has focused on invariance testing for other model parameters under various conditions. This simulation study assesses how partial factorial invariance influences invariance testing for model parameters. Type I error inflation and parameter bias were observed.

A confirmatory analysis of the factor structure and cross-age invariance of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Third Edition.

In the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Third Edition (WAIS-III; D. Wechsler, 1997), the manual reports several confirmatory factor analyses in support of the instrument's latent factor structure. In practice, examiners frequently compare an examinee's score from a current administration of the WAIS-III with the results from a previous test administration. Implicit in test-retest score compari...

Measurement invariance of the strength of motivation for medical school: a multi-group confirmatory factor analysis

BACKGROUND The Strength of Motivation for Medical School-Revised (SMMS-R) questionnaire measures students' motivation for studying medicine. It includes three subscales: 'willingness to sacrifice', 'readiness to start', and 'persistence'. Measurement invariance is a prerequisite for group comparisons. The objectives of this study were to verify the factorial structure of the SMMS-R questionnair...

Decoding the Meaning of Factorial Invariance and Updating the Practice of Multi-group Confirmatory Factor Analysis: A Demonstration With TIMSS Data - Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation

Measurement invariance (MI) has been developed in a very technical language and manner that is generally not widely accessible to social and behavioral researchers and applied measurement specialists. Primarily relying on the widely known concepts in regression and linear statistical modeling, this paper decoded the concept of MI in the context of factor analysis. The paper began by describing ...
